  7. This README describes an OS/2 device driver (CHINCDS1.FLT) for the
  8. Chinon 431, 435 and 535 CD-ROM drives.
  9.  
  10. The Chinon CD-ROM drive MUST be attached to a SCSI adapter which
  11. is supported under OS/2 with an OS/2 SCSI Adapter Device Driver (.ADD).
  12. Currently, there is no support for the Chinon SCSI adapter which is
  13. typically bundled with the Chinon drive.  Chinon is developing an OS/2
  14. adapter device driver for their SCSI card, but it is not available at
  15. this time.

  17. Multisession photo CD is currently not supported for the Chinon 535.
  18. The OS2CDROM.DMD device driver will be updated at a later date
  19. to support this capability for the Chinon 535.  Single session photo CD
  20. is supported for both the Chinon 435 and 535.

  26. The OS/2 Chinon CD-ROM device driver (CHINCDS1.FLT) supports the
  27. following features:
  28.  
  29.   * Reads data from CD-ROM discs conforming to the High Sierra/ISO-9660
  30.     file formats.
  31.  
  32.   * Plays audio from standard audio CDs or mixed mode CD-ROM discs
  33.     containing both data and audio
  34.  
  35.   * Single session photo CD
  36.  
  37.   * Reads data from Mode 2 Form 1 or Mode 2 Form 2 sector formats
  38.  
  39.   * MMPM/2 Software Motion Video
  40.  
  41.   * MMPM/2 CD Audio Player
  42.  
  43.   * Software lock, unlock and eject

  47. THIS CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVER IS DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH THE OS/2 2.1 PRODUCT
  48. AND IS GOVERNED BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE OS/2 PROGRAM LICENSE

  59. Before starting the installation procedure, you should unzip the
  60. files included in the CHINON.ZIP file and copy them to a diskette.
  61. The diskette you created will be referred to as the "Chinon CD-ROM Device
  62. Driver Diskette" in the following installation instructions.

  64. The following files are included in the CHINON.ZIP file:

  67.    CHINCDS1.DDP - Installation profile

  72. Installation if OS/2 2.1 is already installed on your fixed disk
  73. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  75. 1. Run the Device Driver installation program
  76.  
  77.    a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  78.    b. Open the System Setup folder.
  79.    c. Open Device Driver Install.
  80.    d. Insert the "Chinon CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette"
  81.    e. Select Install
  82.    f. Select the device driver to install from the list
  83.    g. Select OK.

  85.    (Note: You do not need to reboot OS/2 before starting step 2 below).

  87. 2. After the Device Driver Installation is complete, you must run
  88.    Selective Install to install the files for the OS/2 CD-ROM Device
  89.    Manager and OS/2 CD-ROM File System.
  90.  
  91.    a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  92.    b. Open the System Setup folder.
  93.    c. Open Selective Install
  94.    d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  95.    e. Select OK
  96.    f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  97.       select the choice OTHER
  98.    g. Select OK
  99.    h. If you have not installed support for your SCSI adapter, then Select
  100.       the SCSI Adapter Support check box to add the device driver
  101.       for your SCSI adapter.  Select the SCSI adapter from the table
  102.       and continue with the installation procedure.
  103.    i. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  104.       screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  105.    j. Select Install
  106.    k. When prompted to do so, insert the numbered installation diskettes
  107.       or installation CD-ROM from the OS/2 2.1 product.

  110. 3. Shut down and restart your system

  115. Installation from the CD-ROM version of OS/2 2.1
  116. ------------------------------------------------

  118. 1.  Make a copy of the OS/2 2.1 diskette labeled "Diskette 1"
  119.  
  120. 2.  Copy the file CHINCDS1.FLT from the "Chinon CD-ROM Device Driver
  121.     Diskette" to the root directory on the copy of the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1.
  122.  
  123.     (Note: If there is not enough room on the copy of OS/2 2.1
  124.      Diskette 1, then delete the file IBM2SCSI.ADD.  If you delete
  125.      IBM2SCSI.ADD, you must also edit the CONFIG.SYS file and delete
  126.      the line BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD)

  128. 3.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file located on the copy of Diskette 1.
  129.     At the end of the file, add the following statement.

  131.        BASEDEV=CHINCDS1.FLT
  132.

  134. 4.  Begin the installation by inserting the Installation Diskette
  135.     into drive A and restarting the system.  When prompted to insert
  136.     Diskette 1, insert the copy that you modifed.
  137.  
  138. 5.  When the System Configuration screen is displayed during installation,
  139.     the CD-ROM Device Support field will display "Other".  DO NOT MODIFY
  140.     THE CHOICE and continue with the installation.

  143. 6.  Shut down and reboot the system

  147. Installation from the diskette version of OS/2 2.1
  148. --------------------------------------------------

  150. 1. Install the OS/2 2.1 product from the diskettes
  151.  
  152. 2. Go to the section above titled "Installation if OS/2 2.1 is already
  153.    installed on your fixed disk".

  162. After installation is complete, you should have the following
  163. statements in your CONFIG.SYS file.

  166. IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  167. DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS
  168. BASEDEV=CHINCDS1.FLT

  170. You should also have a BASEDEV= statement in your config.sys file
  171. for your OS/2 SCSI adapter device driver.  For example, if the
  172. CD-ROM drive is attached to an Adaptec 1542 adapter, you should have
  173. the following line in config.sys:

  182. Bug reports must include the following information:

  185.   CD-ROM Product ID:            i.e. Chinon 535
  186.   CD-ROM Firmware Level:        i.e. Q11
  187.   SCSI Host Adapter:            i.e. Adaptec 1542C

  190. The CD-ROM product ID and firmware level can be displayed at
  191. boot time by adding the /V switch to the DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD line
  192. in config.sys.  For example, the following line may be displayed at boot
  193. time after the OS/2 logo screen is displayed:
